DEPARTMENT: Mining Maintenance Department
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Foreman
EXEMPT / NON-EXEMPT: NON-EXEMPT

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of equipment in support of overall production goals. The Maintenace Mechanic must be familiar with equipment operation, lubrication, field repair, and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment, diesel engines and hydraulic systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains, diagnoses and repairs all mobile underground equipment including; diesel engines, transmissions, drive train components, high pressure pumps, centrifugal pumps, air compressors, microprocessor controls, electro-mechanical equipment, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, 12/24v electrical systems, equipment cabs and controls, chassis and suspension, rims, tires and wheels.
  • Schedule and complete PMs including scheduled hour services, changing fluids, filters, inspections and other component checks.
  • Perform welding and fabrication duties (frame repairs, brackets, body work, etc.)
  • Complete required maintenance reports and logs.
  • Other tasks as directed by the Maintenance Foreman or Supervisors.
  • ATF Clearance is mandatory for employees around or handling explosives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:

  • 3-5 years of experience in Underground Mine Maintenance preferred.
  • A strong communicator.
  • Basic Computer skills. Familiar and knowledgeable with Microsoft Word and Excel software, which is frequently used for accounting, communication, and inventory.
  • A positive and proactive attitude to Mine Safety and Health Administration. All Employees must be MSHA trained/certified.
  • Able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his/her duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Must be able to provide your own tools.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS:

  • Frequently required to work underground and in confined spaces.
  • Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions and wet, humid (non-weather) conditions.
  • Occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • May be exposed to loud noise levels.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, talk, and hear.
  • Occasionally required to use repetitive motion and reach with hands/arms.
  • Requires clarity of vision and three-dimensional vision.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 25-50 pounds.
